  • Overview

    Purpose: This role splits responsibility between copyediting for all brand executions across multiple channels (60%) and copywriting for product descriptions and statements in channels (40%). Collaborate with Editorial Manager, Art and Merchant teams on creative approach and copy accuracy.





    Core Accountabilities:



    • Review and make corrections to Eddie Bauer copy in catalogs, emails, website, and in retail projects such as hangtags, direct mail promotions, and store signage. Areas of concern include spelling, grammar, usage, and technical and informational errors.
    • Maintain awareness of brand voice and evolving practices
    • Spot and correct merchandise sizing, color, pricing, and dimension errors in selling and marketing copy
    • Work closely with copywriters, designers, and production department to ensure the accuracy of copy across all channels
    • Maintain and enforce brand voice copy standards
    • Create calendars and editorial timelines to ensure all deadlines are met
    • Source, hire, train, and manage freelance and junior copy editors for assistance during vacations and busy times
    • Manage and archive Eddie Bauer copy standards documentation
    • Take on additional projects as assigned by Manager, Editorial as needed
    • Contribute to copy team in creating a stimulating, supportive, collaborative work environment that encourages team to continually raise the level of excellence in creative execution



    • Create compelling product copy and brand copy for various channels as directed
    • Ensure accuracy of information presented in copy using internal data systems
    • Support seasonal marketing initiatives in copy direction
    • Write product-driven and brand voice headlines
    • Flow copy into layouts
    • Collaborate with design team, marketing and merchants to develop and maximize the efficiency of messaging
    • Ensure messaging consistency across all media
    • Track status of copy through production schedule
    • Work closely with design team on overall creative approach
    • Work with merchant and PLM teams to make edits for product copy accuracy

    Education/Experience Required:

    • 4-year college degree in Advertising, English, Journalism, Communications or Publishing or a comparable level of experience
    • 5 years of journalism or copywriting experience
    • Experience in the retail/outdoor industry with awareness of trends and technology
    • 3+ years experience in copyediting and proofreading complex retail content
    • Extremely detail-oriented, well organized and able to thrive in deadline-driven environment
    • Able to track and retain detailed product information and changes
    • Self-motivated; able to work independently while handling a number of projects simultaneously
    • Must have a proven track record in successfully working within the structure of an existing brand voice
    • Proven experience in writing effectively for apparel, especially outerwear
    • Proficiency in InDesign and Word

    • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to talk or hear. The associate is frequently required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle or feel; as well as reach with hands and arms.
    • The associate must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
    • Ability to work in open environment with fluctuating temperatures and standard lighting.
    • Ability to work on computer and mobile phone for multiple hours; with frequent interruptions.
    • Required to travel in elevator or stairwells to attend meetings and engage with associates on multiple floors throughout building.

    Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

    This is a full-time position. As an International Retailer, occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required during periods of high volume. This role operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
